Frequently
Asked
Questions
Do you take my insurance?
We’re in-network with Regence, Premera, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Kaiser, Lifewise, Anthem, Aetna, and TriWest.
If you have a different plan, you may still be able to use out-of-network benefits. We’re happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
Before your first appointment, we’ll verify your benefits and let you know what your anticipated out-of-pocket cost will be.
What if I don’t have insurance?
You’re welcome here, regardless of insurance. Our session rate is $200 per 50-minute session, and we offer a reduced fee of $150 for clients who are paying out of pocket.
We also have a small number of sliding scale spots available based on financial need — just let us know if you’d like to be considered for one. We’ll always do our best to make therapy accessible.
We accept all major credit cards, as well as HSA and FSA cards.
Can I meet with my therapist virtually?
Yes — we offer virtual therapy for clients anywhere in Washington State.
Whether you’re in Tacoma, Spokane, or the San Juan Islands, you can meet with your therapist from the comfort of your own space.
Because our clinicians are licensed in Washington, we can only provide therapy to clients who are physically located within the state at the time of session, even if you normally live here but are traveling.
Even if you normally meet with your therapist in person, you’re always welcome to utilize a virtual visit if you’re not feeling well, life gets too busy, or even if you just don’t want to leave the house in the rainy PNW weather.
What if I’m not sure if therapy is right for me?
That’s completely okay — many people feel that way at first.
You’re welcome to schedule a free phone consultation with our Clinical Director, Mary Allison Jensen, LICSW, to talk through your goals and see if therapy feels like a good fit. You can also request to speak directly with one of our therapists before scheduling your first session.
The goal of the consultation is simple: to make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and supported from the start.
How often do I need to come to therapy?
That’s something we decide together.
Most clients begin with sessions weekly or every other week to build momentum and consistency, but the pace can shift depending on your goals, progress, and availability.
Therapy at Tacoma Wellness Collective is collaborative, not prescriptive — we’ll find a rhythm that feels sustainable for you.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice so we can offer that time to another client.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed entirely, are billed at our cash pay rate of $150, since insurance cannot cover missed sessions.
This policy helps us honor everyone’s time and maintain consistent care for all clients.
What can I expect in my first session?
The first session is about connection, not perfection.
Your therapist will take time to get to know you — your story, your strengths, and what’s bringing you to therapy now. Together, you’ll start setting goals and exploring what support looks like for you.
We’ll move at your pace, not ours.
What if my insurance plan changes?
If your insurance plan changes during treatment, please let us know right away so we can verify your new coverage. We’ll always confirm any change in costs before billing your next session.
If your new plan isn’t one we’re in-network with, we can provide superbills for possible reimbursement or transition you to our reduced self-pay rate if you prefer to continue care privately.
Can therapy really help?
Yes — and not because you’re “broken,” but because you’re human.
Therapy offers a space to better understand yourself, build emotional resilience, and create new ways of relating — to yourself and others — that feel aligned with who you want to be.
Healing isn’t instant, but it’s absolutely possible.
