Meet Dominique

Dominique Fortson-Jordan (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and Substance Use Disorder Professional who brings advocacy, cultural awareness, and deep respect into every therapeutic space. Her path into this work began in systems where mental health was treated as a luxury instead of a necessity — and where addiction was often misunderstood as a choice rather than a complex health condition. Witnessing those gaps in care shaped her commitment to education, equity, and accessible support. Becoming a therapist was not just a career decision for Dominique — it was a calling to help change the narrative.

Dominique has spent much of her professional journey working within marginalized communities, supporting individuals navigating substance use, systemic barriers, trauma, and mental health challenges. She understands that healing does not happen in isolation from culture, identity, and lived experience. Her work is especially meaningful for individuals from historically excluded or underserved communities who are seeking a safe, affirming space to process their story. Dominique believes that therapy should feel collaborative, empowering, and rooted in authenticity — a place where clients are honored as the experts of their own lives.

Clients often describe Dominique as open, grounded, and genuinely present. Her hope is that after the first session, clients feel seen, heard, and hopeful that they have found a supportive place to move through their healing journey.

Education & Credentials:

Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate, 2025

Licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional

National Certified Counselor

Experience Highlights:

Extensive work with marginalized and underserved communities
Substance use treatment and recovery support
Family systems and culturally responsive care

Healing should be culturally responsive, the therapeutic space should feel safe and affirming, empowerment is essential, authenticity matters, resilience can be cultivated, and the experience of marginalized populations deserves to be honored.

Dominique’s style in the therapy room is collaborative, affirming, and individualized. She uses an eclectic approach, drawing from Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma-informed frameworks to tailor each session to the person in front of her. She believes there is no single “right” way for therapy to look — healing is personal, and it unfolds differently for everyone.

She works intentionally to create a non-judgmental and culturally responsive environment where clients can show up exactly as they are in the moment. Dominique centers empowerment and authenticity, helping clients cultivate resilience, self-love, and clarity. Her philosophy is that healing is a journey without a fixed timeline. It is shaped by each person’s expectations, identity, and readiness for change.

Dominique often reminds clients that therapy does not have to fit into a rigid mold — there is more room outside than there is inside. Growth happens when people feel safe enough to explore it.
