Meet Mimi
Mairut “Mimi” Wells (she/her) is a social worker and mental health therapist whose career is rooted in compassion, cultural humility, and deep respect for resilience. Her professional path has taken her through schools, community programs, crisis services, and adult outpatient care — giving her a wide-angle understanding of the systems people navigate and the barriers many face long before they ever step into therapy.
Mimi’s work began in 2004 with the College Success Foundation, where she supported high-school students from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing higher education. She later continued this work in Clover Park School District as a family support specialist, helping families meet basic needs, access resources, and advocate for their children’s success. After moving into higher education at Tacoma Community College, Mimi guided adult learners in the ABE and GED programs, deepening her understanding of generational poverty, systemic inequity, and the emotional challenges that come with big transitions.
Over time, the hours spent supporting students and families through grief, stress, and overwhelm sparked a calling toward mental health work. She pursued her Master of Social Work at Eastern Washington University and completed clinical training in crisis intervention and adult outpatient therapy. Today, she brings together trauma-informed practice, cultural attunement, and evidence-based tools to support clients through some of life’s hardest moments.
Mimi connects most deeply with clients navigating trauma, grief, life transitions, emotional dysregulation, neurodivergence, or bipolar disorder. She especially values working with individuals who have experienced systemic barriers or generational poverty — creating a space where their stories can be honored, held, and explored safely.
Her hope is that clients leave each session feeling seen, understood, and just a little lighter.

You’re with yourself 100 percent of the time. You have to be kind to yourself — you have to be your own best friend.
Mimi’s approach is gentle, collaborative, and rooted in the belief that clients are the true experts in their own lives. She blends trauma-informed care with elements of CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, culturally responsive and neuro-affirming frameworks, and a humanistic, solution-focused lens — weaving them together in a way that feels supportive, transparent, and empowering. In session, Mimi offers tools, reflection, and structure while always honoring each client’s autonomy. Her presence is warm and steady, softened with gentle humor and a judgment-free openness that helps clients feel comfortable exploring what they’ve been carrying.
Mimi believes healing is not linear — it moves in cycles, looping and unfolding rather than following a straight path. In therapy, Mimi creates a space where people can speak honestly, explore safely, and move at their own pace. She listens deeply, validates generously, and brings a calm, grounding energy to every conversation. Her hope is that clients leave feeling supported, understood, and equipped with practical tools they can use between sessions.
